Not an Imagined Affair
Cheers to Elbow for winning the Mercury Music Prize yesterday. The Manchester-bred fivesome, who've been churning out epic alt-rock anthems since 1990, finally took the celebrated British award for their latest LP, The Seldom Seen Kid, and it was totally well-deserved. I absolutely LOVED the anti-Bush/anti-war Leaders of the Free World, and didn't know if they could top it, but I am telling you, The Seldom Seen Kid is absolutely stunning. Surely one of the best for 2008.
Elbow beat out other contenders such as Radiohead, British Sea Power, Laura Marling, Estelle, The Last Shadow Puppets, Adele, Neon Neon, Portico Quartet, Rachel Unthank & the Winterset, Burial, and Robert Plant & Alison Krauss. And if you haven't spent time with British Sea Power's brilliant third album, Do You Like Rock Music?, do it, stat!
The BBC has Elbow's acceptance speech.
